STUDIOS.

At Freightwood, we make cool stuff. Our crew designs and builds custom scenic pieces, wild event environments, and hands-on brand experiences that don’t look like anyone else’s. We do it all — design, production, fabrication, lighting, props, graphics, textiles — plus all the nerdy CNC, laser, and 3D printing magic that makes big ideas real. Whether you’re throwing a festival, producing an event, or creating a brand activation that actually gets attention, Freightwood’s here to make it happen — with style, creativity, and a lick of paint.

WHO IS FREIGHTWOOD

MADDIE PETERSON : Creative Scenic Lead

Maddie Peterson is a multi-disciplinary designer and artist whose work spans costume design, scenic artistry, and fabrication across theatre, film, festivals, and live events in both New York and London. She earned her BFA in Integrated Design from Parsons The New School for Design, where she honed her multidisciplinary approach and design sensibilities. Her early career included costume design for Broadway productions, major regional theatres across the U.S., and global world tours—demonstrating her ability to shape character and storytelling on every scale.

Eager to expand her creative practice, Maddie completed a MA in Performance Design & Practice, with Distinction, at Central Saint Martins in London. This advanced training propelled her into roles as a scenic artist and fabricator for festivals and immersive events, as well as Creative Director of a performance venue in Brighton, where she oversaw programming, design, and audience experience. She has also owned and curated an art gallery, developing exhibitions that showcased emerging and established artists across multiple disciplines.

At the heart of Maddie’s practice is her belief in the power of collective experience: whatever the medium or project, her aim is always the same—to bring people together through a shared creative experience.

JOSHUA CARR : Structural + Technical Lead

Joshua Carr is a Tony Award–nominated lighting designer whose work spans West End and Broadway stages, national theatres, and some of the U.K.’s most dynamic festival landscapes. A graduate of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), his portfolio reflects a distinctive ability to shape mood, rhythm, and narrative through light, earning recognition from critics and peers alike.

His acclaimed work extends beyond traditional theatre stages into the vibrant world of temporary festival environments. Joshua was the Director of Design & Production for The Warren, a multi-venue festival site at the Brighton Fringe Festival, with 8 theaters and 6 bars. Under his vision, The Warren evolved into the largest venue complex at the Fringe, hosting 2,500 performances in a month. His innovative design approach transformed temporary structures into grand, atmospheric spaces—blending architectural scale with intimacy—and was pivotal in establishing The Warren’s signature immersive feel. In 2020, he adapted the concept into The Warren Outdoors on Brighton Beach, creating a socially distanced, open-air venue that preserved the magic of live performance during the pandemic.

His career is defined by a rare fusion of technical mastery and creative vision, transforming spaces of every scale into unforgettable and immersive experiences for audiences and communities alike.
